HI, i am having trouble burning dvds with different media. When i use DVD+R's i have no trouble whatsoever without any ruined discs...but whenever i used DVD-R's, only half of the time does it burn properly. When im using DVDshrink, and while using DVD-R's i get an error before it even starts writing the tracks and then the dvd is ruined. I know for a fact that my dvd burner does burn dvd-r's so there must be some other problem. If anyone can help me out it would be greatley appreciated.
DVD+R works, DVD-R wont

Hi DJxSLU, Welcome to the Forums
Have you experimented with different brands of DVD-R? Check http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters for brand compatibility and ensure you are running the latest firmware (which will let your writer recognise more media)
-
thanks...i tried again to get a more accurate description of what is happening...the error i get is the "SCSI command aborted"....yes i have tried other brands as well and yes i just updated the firmware and the problem is still occuring.
edit: i looked at that site you gave me and everything seems to be right for my burner...but still having troubleLast edited by DJxSLU; 27 Apr 2005, 10:45 AM.Comment

2) You aren't trying to change the bitsetting to DVD-ROM are you? You can only to that with +R media.
edit: also...i think it might have to be shrink that doesnt like the media, because i tried to burn a dvd with DVDdecrypter earlier and it worked(after 6 write retries, but finally worked)Last edited by DJxSLU; 27 Apr 2005, 11:04 AM.Comment

Read the Golden Rules of Burning in my sig. Make sure your DMA is on, firmware is up to date, burn at 4x AND as migsy said, stop trying to set the bookmark on -R media - it makes coasters!!!

See your log? It says you have changed the bookmark. This means you have the setting checked in DVD Shrink (Backup - Burn Settings). For -R disks, unitck BookTyoe DVD-ROM.

is there any way to uncheck book type dvd rom if your not using nero? i am also having problems using dvd-r media. but the book type setting is grayed out. i can still see it has a check mark by it though. does this only matter if your using nero?Comment

If it's greyed out, it means you can't set it.
But best is to use DVD Decrypter, where you have to set the bookmark if you want to.
