all of a sudden getting error messages, why?

If you look in the log file from DVD Decrypter you see it here:

This one has PDS3 installed. You can also see it if you rightclick on the burner in DVD Decrypter and select 'Capabilities'.

Ver 1.3 for Compaq ought to be the one you should select.

after i download the file, then what do i do?

1. No disc in the burner
2. Close down all other programs
3. Restart your PC after the flash

ok, flashed it. went from version 1.10 to 1.30 now. still dont work though. when i open up dvd decrypter it says LOGICAL UNIT IS IN PROCESS OF BECOMING READY, then it says INCOMPATIBLE MEDIUM INSTALLED. this is with a blank disk, however says the same thing with a store bought movie.
a side note. outside of dvd decrypter. if i put in a store bought disk to try and watch it, the drive will spin, lights flash and thats about it. go to my computer and look at the drive for the dvd rom it shows no label. but if i click properties it will show that there is a full disk, still with no name. and it wont play

ok, back to the original problem with the lap top. i thought it was fixed, but having problems again/still. i went out and bought some dvd+rw. imation brand. they work just fine. then i put in some of my original dvd-r and they would work. so i thought eveery thing was good, made two different movies. then i went to make another one, tested it with a dvd+rw and it worked fine. so i thought i could use the dvd-r that i had. got the error. tried the other dvd-r and got the same error as posted before. as said earlier both dvd-r are from a pack of 50 with about half already used with no problems. so why all of a sudden am i having errors with my dvd-r?

oh, one more note. on every dvd that gives the error when i take it out of the drive the first 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the disk looks different. from the inside out. almost as if it has been etched or something. it only looks like this on the ones that gives an error and only after i try to write to it. when i first put this disk in it looks fine.

Could be that burner don't like the brand of your -R discs or that they are just low quality - works only sometimes.

tried the firmware on the pioneer, was a no go either, says it cant find target or something.

as for the possible bad disks. i would agree with you if:
1. i have been using disks from the same two packs for the last two months with no problems until now.(about 50 disks total used)
2. now both packs, different brands give me errors every time. brands are memorex, and fuji films
3. the disks will work just fine in another computer
4. to all of a sudden 1 day give the errors.

the only thing i could think that i have done is i open and installed the SONIC RECORD NOW program that came on the computer when i bought it to try and copy a cd. is there any way this program could have changed something? i did uninstal then reinstal decrypter and shrink afterwards. i have not however uninstalled SONIC RECORD NOW yet.

Memorex is just plain crap. Upgrade your media. Don't try to flog a dead horse. See burner/media compat in my sig.

i dont doubt that it is crap. but, its still really hard to believe that two different brands of blanks that had previously worked without a single flaw to all of a sudden go bad.not that it couldnt happen, just unlikely i would think. please dont think that im trying to argue with you or think that your wrong in any way. however, you have to admit, it does seem a little odd

No, it isn't odd at all. Many burners perform well with certain disks and just chuck a mental with others. And with some media, they are a bit iffy. More of an art than a science.

Find media that works 100% of them tiem and buy its media code with your ears pinned back. I mean - NEVER change. Remember, it also has to be compatible with your players

Having said the above, if the Fujis are genuine AND they are compatible with your burner, then they should be fine.

Try slowing the write speed. Check the golden rules in my sig.

i agree with you about finding media that works 100% of the time. that is what i have, well had.
2 differnt 50 packs
1st is memorex that i have used about 35 out of 50
2nd is fuji film that i used about 25 out of 50
all 100%, never a single error, perfect burn every time. then all of a sudden, on the same day on the same session. error, error, error after error, a total of about 15 disks(then went to rw's) form both packs from different locations on the stack also. thats why im saying its odd

checked your golden rules and i have done all of them. even set it on the slowest speed, still no go. wasnt sure on the bitsetting, so had to double check to make sure

Well, it appears this particular disks are not liked (or you have just got a few bad apples), while your Imations are.

One other thing: Those Fujis are rated 8x - it is strange to see them as 2x and 4x - perhaps it is your firmware, but it could also be that the disks are non-genuine.

You should write in test mode next time to see what happens instead of making a coaster.

Although I can't quite put my finger on it, it appears that your burner or DVD Decrypter is "seeing" your burnable media as R/W (writing at 2.4X, rather than either 2X or 4X).

Perhaps LIGHTNING UK!, the author of DVD Decrypter and a moderator at these forums will provide an explanation...
