    Error when burning DVD

    Hi,
Whenever I try to burn my 150mb movie on a DVD, it fails. I've tried this in Premiere and Nero. They both give me the same error
I thought it was my HDD (because I was using a 5400rpm one), so I bought me a 7200rpm 8mb cache. Still i get the same error. Here's a copy/paste from the errorlog:
    6:10:41] NeroVision 16:08:23 #21 CDR -1024 File Writer.cpp, Line 304
    [16:10:41] NeroVision Communication failure

My PC is a AMD Athlon XP 1800+
    Got 750mb DDR memory
a 80gb HDD for my videofiles
and my burner is a Aopen DUW1608/ARR DVD burner. Maybe a firmware upgrade could help?

    Please help me,
    Papsico

One thing you might try is to output your final project to a folder on the HD and use a SW player like PowerDVD to play it and see if all goes well. If there are no problems then start Nero Burning Rom and try a burn as a seperate step. You may also want to check the compatability of your media with you burner:

    for writer compatibility search here:

Already tried that, won't work either.
I'm doing a firmware upgrade, hope it helps.

Long before you get to the burning stage - I asked if you could play your project from the HardDrive with a SW player like PowerDVD and you indicated NO. If you are unable to play from the HD then no amount of burning is going to help. When you open the folder of your project can you tell us what you have?

          Side note:
          6:10:41] NeroVision 16:08:23 #21 CDR -1024 File Writer.cpp, Line 304
          [16:10:41] NeroVision Communication failure

looks like Nero is trying to use a CDR?

The *.avi is located at the desktop, and I can play it with Windows Media Player, so i guess the file is ok.
Do I have to encode to MPEG2 first?

You may want to look at this:

                Thx, very useful link!
But euhm; after having done all that (converten to mpeg2 etc.), I still get the same error...
                Still the same Communication Failure....

                  Ok, problem solved!
The problem seemed to be the AOpen dvd-writer. It's just a crappy dvd-writer, so I brought it back and bought a Pioneer dvd-writer instead. This one works great!
Tip: Don't buy AOpen dvd-writers, they're very bad! Just look at the AOpen forum, and see how many people complain about their writer. Click to see!
