burning problems with a NU DVDRW DDW-082 burner and NERO

    Hi
I was wondering if anybody might be able to help me.
For some unknown reason (to me anyway..) my burner doesnt like burning DVDs. I have a NU DVDRW DDW-082 burner and I use NERO v6 to try and burn DVDs. It burns CD's fine, but whenever i go to burn a DVD, it will start wait about 10-15 seconds then stop and a message will say burning has failed. At first and after talking to a few ppl i know, they suggested it was the media I was using. After about 6-7 different trials of different brands, nothing works. When I first got my computer it worked fine, but now, it doesnt.
If anybody has any idea as to what it may be, please let me know, as their help will greatly be appreciated.

Could you post a log file from Nero ?

To do so, go here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero
Look for a file named "NeroHistory.log"
Open that file up and copy it.
    Then paste it here.

"When I first got my computer it worked fine, but now, it doesnt."

      1) What brand, speed, and format (DVD+R or DVD-R) were you using at first?

      2) How long have you had the burner?

      3) Approximately how may DVDs and CDs have you burned on this burner? You might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on the burner. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US

      4) To determine the capabilities/limitations of your DVD burner, as well as media compatibility, go to:

Hi cynthia, thanks for tha advice
I tried doing as you suggested (enabling DMA). I went to the link on how to do it and and under the 'Primary IDE channel properties' box, device 0 is set up the way it says to set it up but device 1 it has :
              Device 1
              Device Type - Auto Detection
Transfer Mode - DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode - Not Applicable

              Now here is the thing.
The 'current Transfer Mode' option is grayed out and wont let me change it..
All i know is this is starting to really confuse the hell out of me

Could try to see if there is a setting in your BIOS that prevents it from changing to DMA.

Perhaps an update of your mother board drivers could help.

What would I have to look for in the BIOS??
Or how would I update the mother board driver??

The IDE settings in the BIOS are they set to AUTO?

Should be three alternatives: Auto, Manual, None.

There is also another setting in BIOS that could be a problem:

IDE Prefetch mode - should be set to Enabled.
Onboard IDE-1 controller - should be set to Enabled
Onboard IDE-2 controller - should be set to Enabled
Master/Slave drive PIO/Ultra DMA mode - should be set to Auto

Motherboard drivers: Go to your mother board manufactorys homepage and download the latest.

                      1) The Ritek G05s that you are using have been reported to be problematic in several postings to these forums (G03 and G04 appear to be fine)

                      2) Try burning at 2X

I honestly thought your idea was working, but it failed at 100%

Then it would seem that it's time to purchase different media than Ritek G05s (Such as Ritek/Ridata G03 or G04 or Maxell)

Did you do the firmware update?
