dvd playback

i have used both verbatim and taiyo yuden dvd blanks(16x) to backup my movies. I have found that
1. movies backed up using verbatim plays on both my dvd player and pc
2. movies backed up onto taiyo yuden play on one dvd player and my laptop but not on the PC that i used for the backup( the pc couldnt find the dvd) ..the dvd player that it plays on is sony(japanese) and taiyo yuden is japanese as well...

Any thoughts or remedy? Thanks

This never ceases to amaze me. Yours is not the first time. It defies the laws of Physics and Reason!
Does the Verbatim work on the laptop?

yes it does.backups on verbatim plays on all system !!!...and i am left with a ton of taiyo yuden blank dvds...

Ah You might find there's a firmware update for your burner which could help.
Alas, I was in that situation with a pile of Princos when I started but thankfully found someone who could actually use them!

Glad you have success - there's sometimes just no logical reason for it; I had to reinstall recently halfway through a drum of Ritek and my burner started making coasters.
Did a firmware change and back in business!

Just so you know, there have been postings at several other forums indicating that there are currently a lot of counterfeit Taiyo Yuden media for sale at less than realistic prices from less than reputable Internet dealers...

Interesting setarip...i bot mine from supermediastore.com..
i noticed that there is nothing on the blank dvd that says Taiyo yuden..i(unlike verbatim- which i like alot) its almost plain naked except for the fact that the writable side has a really nice shinny sheen to it..the cake comes with a sheet that says dvd-r16x for professional,,,and in the bottom ..made in japan..manufactured by Taiyo yuden co... shrug,,,
