Compare Nero6 to Easy Media Creator 7.5.

    Hello.

I am trying to decide on a program that will help me edit home videos on DVD. Typically...

    1. I would burn a DVD (using a set-top Sansui burner) from the camcorder tape

    2. Put the home video DVD in my PC's DVD burner and then rip the DVD to the hard drive.

    3. Do simply scene deletion via timeline editing.

    4. Burn a new DVD.

I'm considering Nero 6 and Easy Media Creator 7.5.

Nero6 is appealing because, according to the retail box, it will runon win98se.

Has anyone used these prorams and, if so, which is preferred and for what reason(s)?

I'm a newbie at this, so, please, any help is appreciated.

    Thanks a lot!

"Do simply scene deletion via timeline editing."

I'd suggest you consider using "TMPGEnc DVD Author". You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:

    TMPGEnc,DVD Author,tmpg,mpg,mpeg,encoder,TMPG,tmpgenc,Pegasys,TSUNAMI,authoring,digital,video,DVD-Video,AVI,converter,convert,movie,movies

This program will also allow you to EASILY add menus and chaptering to your DVD...

You already have the files in DVD format from your camcarder.

If you want to delete something - use DVD Shrink (freeware) - burn the output with DVD Decrypter (freeware).

Thanks for the replies, Seta, Cynthia.

I wrote that post after a long day and forgot to include a few things.

        1. Simple scene deletion will not be the only editing that I would want to do. I might want to add titling/fades/crossfades and things *like* that later.

I'd really like to NOT spend more than $100 (give or take) on this. I looked into the TMPGEnc DVD Author program before and it didn't seem like that great of a solution to me. (For anyone else reading this, please don't forget that I'm a newbie and furthermore, I cannot recommend/not recommend the TMPGEnc DVD Author software).

I'm already out $100 that I plopped down for Sony Movie Studio + DVD. I didn't know beforehand that it doesn't handle AC3 audio. (It's a long story.)

        2. I appreciate you telling me about the freeware/shareware. I'm not ruling it out. However, I've had some pretty bad experiences with such programs.

        3. Whatever program(s) I use, they apparently need to be able to handle AC3 audio.

        4. I'd like to be working with as few programs as possible. If Nero6 would handle everything I need (aside from a little encoding/recoding/rendering), I'd really like to consider it.

So, my previously-asked questions still remain, with the addition of...

Do any of the suggested programs support AC3? And, what about Nero6? I do strongly believe that Easy Media Creator DOES support AC3.

Please, don't get the wrong idea...I REALLY do value the feedback immensely. I've been burned lately with a lot of this DVD-related stuff. I'm tired of shucking out my hard-earned money only to see it sitting on a shelf. (Again, it's a long story.) I'm also very tired of the whole "download this, try it, and pray it doesn't mess up your system, and maybe--just maybe--it will work" scenario.

        Thank you very much.
