Retrieve a movie from an unfinalized dvd-r

I have a few dvd's made in my standalone LiteOn 5005 that are unfinalized and the 5005 won't recognize them. My PC based LiteOn's won't read them because they are unfinalized. I ran Isobuster and see an Open Session 1 folder with 4 files in it that Isobuster saves as .tao . The 5005 played the movie that was recorded until I ejected them and now it doesn't recognize them. Is there anyway to rescue the movies or is all lost? Is there anything that'll extract from the .tao files that will make a playable dvd?

    Thanks

"Is there anyway to rescue the movies or is all lost?"

"cynthia" had posted something a while back regarding using DVD Decrypter to finalize a DVD as follows:

    DVD Decrypter>>Tools>>Drive>>Close>>Track/Session/Disk

Click on the following link for a Googlesearch for ".TAO to .ISO"

No joy - maybe I did not do it right with decrypter. it had drive close - track/session/disc...I tried track first (there were four) then session, then disc...I gotta check out the DVD Decrypter FAQ.

I tried IsoCommander also, no go

          Thanks

If DVD Decrypter is able to "see" the DVD, as an experiment, try using it to simply rip a copy to your hardrive...

@setarip - DVD decrypter sees it I just tried to close the track, my drive looked like it was writing.....then I tried a iso read with decrypter and this is what I got...image attached.

Edit - I was able to get the files to my HDD before with Isobuster

"I just tried to close the track"

I'd suggest that, logically, you'd want to "Close Disc"...

In my other post I stated that there was a folder called open session with the four tracks in it....I tried track , then session then disc and same thing. DVD decrypter sees it but it's a no go.

                  Same results tonight.

                  Thanks

What happens if you change the extension .TAO to .ISO

@cynthia - I tried that when I changed the 4 tracks from .tao to .iso and went to create a .mds I get invalid or unsupported image file format. I did this to the Open Session folder on my HDD that Isobuster created.

My statement that DVD Decryper sees it I meant the DVD but it sees no files. The files were seen by Isobuster thats how I knew there were 4 of 'em.

I also posted this 5005 dvd problem on dvd decrypter forum about an hour ago. It's gotta be because it's an unfinalized dvd_vr format I guess. I asked LiteOn support if there is a program to finalize these unfinalized DVD_VR format DVD's and have not gotten a response. and with them I know not to hold my breath.

                      Thanks

here is an image again of the dvd decrypter screen trying to do an iso read of it. I just realized the other one I posted I had scrolled down in the right hand window. The DVD status is shown as incomplete.

As perhaps a last resort, try using "WinHex to "Open files" and, if successful, copy all of the files to your hard drive...

@cynthia and setarip - I gave up for now, I think the data is messed up. I'll try a unfinalized dvd from my 5005 standalone that the 5005 still recognizes later.

                            Thanks for the suggestions
