Transfering from DVD-RAM to DVD -R

    Hi all,

I've found a DVD writer that can handle DVD RW, DVD+r, -r AND DVD RAM.

Anyone now how i go about transfering video from a RAM disk onto a DVD-R?

I've got a load of stuff recorded onto RAM via a Panasonic DVD recorder and i want to free up my RAM disks by transfering them to -R but seem to be having trouble. Can any of you guys help?

        Sorry 'bout that.

Can your PC's DVD-ROM or DVD burner read DVD-RAM?

It's the LG GSA-4163B and it can certainly read RAM.
Here's a link to a site with the writer. Pretty good buy i reckon...

If your "trouble" is that you want to convert the .VRO files to standard Video DVD format, you can do that with (commercial) "TMPGEnc DVD Author".

You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:

            TMPGEnc,DVD Author,tmpg,mpg,mpeg,encoder,TMPG,tmpgenc,Pegasys,TSUNAMI,authoring,digital,video,DVD-Video,AVI,converter,convert,movie,movies

So it seems the single major issue is converting VRO files to VOB files. Does anyone know of any freeware that can do this? DVD author does loads of stuff but most of it isn't required for what i want to do (it seems).

You do have 30 days to copy your RAMs across?
Personally, I recommend TDA. It is very easy to use .. well, it has to be for me to recommend it!
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

Cheers mate. Got a link to TDA...or am i being stupid and it's the same as DVD auth?
Was just wondering if there was any freeware that could do the job and that i could use indefinately.

TMPGEnc DVD Author Dazza76; it kinda gets abbreviated to TDA here
There may be freeware to do it. Strangely, I Googled "vro2vob" and came up with some very exotic text!

I spent ages trying to find freeware a VRO to VOB program. There isn't much out there.

There is a VRO2VOB program here. It is in japanese so it doesn't display text properly on my system. It does work once you worked out what button to press (I get question marks where text should be).

I prefer TDA. TDA (I abbreviate it too) will pay for itself very quickly if you plan to use it longer than 30 days. I use it with my Panasonic HS2 recorder and LG 4040 writer.

But it DOES take care of your originally stated problem - Converting VRO files to standard Video DVD format...

What else, if anything, do you want to do with the VRO files?

Do the other functions of "TMPGEnc DVD Author" somehow interfere with what you're trying to do? If not, you shoudln't concern yourself with its additional functions...

That's pretty much exactly what i want to use it for mate. I record stuff onto my Panasonic DVD recorder with RAM (it's from the generation before the HS2) but want to then transfer it to normal DVD i can watch on my other DVD player. TDA sounds fine but finances are tight and was looking for a way of being able to do it without having to buy anything but the DVD writer (which you can buy on line for £30!)
I don't suppose you've written down anywhere how you do it?

You can use the FULLY FUNCTIONAL FREE trial version of "TMPGEnc DVD Author" for 30 days. Surely within a 30 day period you'll be able to transfer ALL of your presently existing DVD-RAM files to standard Video DVD format, won't you?
