DL Burners

Hopefully this post is in the right spot,
I'm new to dvd shrink, and although I've gotten some great help from this site, I still can't get "great" results. Anyways.... I was doing a search on ebay, and noticed they have DL blank DVD's for $79 for 25 of them.

I also noticed you can pick up a dl burner for under $100 new at Curcuit City.


What are your thoughts?

I'd be willing to spend another $100 + Blanks for exact backups,

Make sure the blanks are Verbatims. Not all media is created equal. Verbatims have excellent dye and are first rate. Otherwise, you're throwing $3 per disk away. Pay peanuts, get monkeys....

On a side note, I did a search while waiting for someone to reply, and it seems like there is a lot of problems with DL burners, and bookset, or whatever.

I've got a lot of original movies and I would like to not only back those up, but also the new ones I buy as well. I have a decent computer, it has 768mb of ram (upgraded from 256mb) I would like to buy the dru-720A burner, but I'm afraid I'll pay all this money, for the burner, and blanks, and still not get an exact copy, with perfect clearity.

Do you think I would be safe?

I've also bought DVD-X Copy years ago, I'm wondering if that will allow me to do a direct copy.

sony's are mostly re-badged "lite-on's". you can save some $$ by purchasing a lite-on

I was looking on that site you posted Mentor, and the guy at the bottom posted this...


Just purchased this from Best Buy ($129). I am brand new to the DVD backup world. So far this has worked without problems. Used DVDecryptor & nero recode 2, Memorex DVD-R & DVD+R. 4 backups - 0 coasters.

I wonder if I could get away with a DL burner, and DVDdecrypter,

i see no problem with that. if you're unsure, you can always ask more questions from the dealer/seller (usually, just mention your pc hardware specifics).

also, do follow what "blutach" indicated (with using "verbatim" d-l blanks).

Currently, legitimate, quality brand D/L burnable media is being sold at reputable online sites in the $6 to $7 US price range (Just recently dropped to this price range). $3.16 each sounds very much like, "If it sounds took good to be true, it probably is"...

Do a search for DL burners. All of the internet stores have them for well under $100. Wait the shipping time and save the $$$$ vs buying in brick and mortar store.

Again, thank you everyone for your quick replys. I think what I'll do is go to Circuit City, and buy one, and if it doesn't work they allow returns up to 30 days.

The GS... mine is a 2001, it's got the Buick centrury's body, with the drive train from the Grand Prix GTP, the GNX is an AMAZING car (worth way too much but hey too each their own) It's a nice car though none the less. Very comfortable, and has decent power, 240hp / 280tq. But I'm wanting to trade it in for a new GTO, orrrrrr... Pay it off, use it as my daily driver, and pick up a 1968-69 GM A-Bdy (Chevelle, gto, GS etc) Do you have a GNX?
