Good advice Lownox - not sure that "most players have trouble with + media", but it never hurts to be as compliant as possible.

I find with my burner it needs to be set after every reboot. Bit annoying that. So users should check, just to be sure.

And never try to change the booktype on -R media.

BR7 - have you used DL discs (1:1 back-ups)?
If so, what software do you use, and what are the settings.
I don't mind dropping the $$$ into the burner, and discs, but I don't want any coasters.
I'll go buy a new burner with my next paycheck if I knew I could get a 1:1 copy.

And I use HP dvd640i DVD Writer lightscribe and so far I have only used DVD shrink and I have been very impressed with my picture and sound I have have hard time telling its not the original the 5.1 and DTS sounds great IMO the Sony Disks are the best out there that I have used and I use Nero start smart

It is the original sound,DvdShrink and other dvd backup programs do not process the audio .

Just wanted to point that out.

I actually have had a hard time convincing someone once that the audio wasnt being re encoded. He swore the quality was reduced.

So he sat there listening to the audio to try and hear a difference,instead of enjoying his movie.

LG 4163B with -R DL is not working

I have a LG 4163B DL burner

Hi I am new in DL burning. Bought the same burner (4163B) and tried to burn -R. Media was not recognized. DVD Identifier 'told' me that this burner does not burn -R DL.
So there are 3 questions:
1. Is there any way to burn -R DL on this burner.
2. Does my Pioneer DVD stand alone play +R DL (specs tell only -R are accepted; guess this was before DL age)
3. Which burner is advisable for burning DL 1:1 (-R DL)

Throw them away - return them for a +R. Burning a -R DL is very problematic as setting the correct layer break sector is difficult, due to the variable size of the DVD.

All DVD players should play +Rs with the booktype set to DVDROM as this is the closest thing to a presssed DVD as there is. I can't guarantee this about -R disks.
