definetly sounds like the most common problem. sounds as if it is poor or incompatible media being used. also , what speed are you burning at? generaaly when your burn at 4x or lower, the chances of success are much higher.
below is a link to find compatible media for your dvd player.
what is the make and model# of your dvd player?"One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888
Columbo moments...
"Double Shock" "The Greenhouse Jungle" "Swan Song" FORUM RULES

im using a LG GSA-4163B 16X burner.....w/ 8X 4.7gig fujifilm......theyre supposed to be compatible....so i really dunno what to do.....cuz its kind of discouraging having the 1st hour successful, then the rest just skips.....Comment

after looking at that site, i suggest sony for that burner. it seems to have the highest success. again, what speed did you burn at?"One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888

Like columbo999 said you should burn at no more than 4x.
Just so you don't miss it in columbo999's sig. link, here are some approx. burn times from that link:
Single Layer(4.7GB) write speeds
1x (CLV) = about 58 minutes
2x (CLV) = about 29 minutes
2.4x (CLV) = about 24 minutes
4x (CLV) = about 14.5 minutes
6x (CLV/ZCLV) = about 10-12 minutes
8x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 8-10 minutes
12x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 6.5-7.5 minutes
16x (CAV/ZCLV) = about 6-7 minutes
To save 10 to 15 minutes in the first burn it will cost you a lot more time the second time around.
I burn @ 4x.
