What is the best speed to burn at?

What is the best speed to burn my movies at and how do I set my burner at that speed? I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and the dvd burner is factory.

The general consesus here is to burn at no higher than 4x. What program are you using to burn with? There should be an option with varying speeds depending upon your media.

But try different speeds with your burner/player/media combination and decide what is best for you. cynthia has good burns at 16x with her combination.

Well, when I downloaded DVDFab and installed it, it said something about enabling something and I said ok to it and I had to restart my system afterwards. I burned a movie with nero afterwards and noticed my speed had increased to 4x when it normally burned at 2x. Any idea what I did?

If you are dealing with DVDFab - you enabled your DMA's.

What are DMA's? Now that you mention it I do remember enabling it but it sounded like an ok thing to do. Was I wrong? And if so, how do I disable it? How did it effect my Nero burning?

Well so is that what made my Nero burning increase from 2.4x to 4x? I've burned a movie since the speed change with Nero and the backup looks fine.
