Help - Nero and optorite problems

I have an Optorite DD1603 16x burner with all 3 firmware patches. I am usinge Nero.

    media: Hypermedia 8x +R

I cannot for the life of me complete a DVD. They all come out with errors. Today I tried DVD shrink after reading through the forums and still had errors. I must have wasted 10 blank DVD's

    Can someone help?

The following is the latest error.........

    "focus or tracking error"

    "CdRomPeripheral : GENERIC DVD RW 16XMax "

"cmc mag", i don't think this is a good media for this writer. buy a good quality media, and lower the burn speed to 2x or 4x. i would try this first! ON A RW DISC. you don't need to make any more "coasters". it is also possible that the writer itself has a problem

    here is your writer

CMC media is bad for most writers. It isn't that good. Focus/tracking errors are caused by the hardware not liking the media.

I have heard that this writer is best at writing at only 2x with CMC media. I don't think it is possible to burn 8x media at 2x (still using 4x media).

I would suggest trying some different media and do a test on a DVD+RW/-RW.

Okay, first I would like to say thanks! I am trying to contain myself.... but...

        Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

I went and bout some memorex 8x -R..... and lo' and behold! What a difference. I tried to burn at 2x but no go - switched to 4x and I immediately got a good burn at 4x (I wasn't in the mood to try 8x and get a coaster). You guys are great!

          Glad they worked.

Good media is essential in this hobby. I wouldn't burn at 8x. 4x is the recommended max speed in my experience. I would rather take an extra 7 minutes and don't risk a coaster each time.

alot of ppl put memorex media down but I've stated many times that I've had excellent results with memorex dvd media, and I burn at 4x. the last 4 25 paks I got were cmc and no problems what so ever

OMG - well, there you have it folks. CMC are the best. Save yourself a few cents per disk. Burn them at 16x, too! With DMA off, for good measure. And maybe with Nero version 6.0

And, for good measure, whack a nice adhesive label on it.

Some writers do like CMC media. I have CMC Memorex +RW's which my LG writerr. I have found that Memorex -R's are worse though and don't even work in my DVD players except for one. There +R's work fine in all myt players.

It comes down to matching media with writer and the euipment. Just because some people have problems it doesn't mean everyone will. It is a lot harder to get right compared to CD. Luckily, I used decent media straight away and never had one coaster due to bad media.

that made me laugh...maybe you should add that line to your golden rules of burning

true. for some reason my burner doesn't like verbatim media and I know from other ppl that verbatim are good media. I get 1 good burn for app every 3-4 bad burns
