    Trouble burning Taiyo and Sony

New to the process. New Sony Dw-Q28a burner. Reads DVD's, CD's, and writes CD's just fine. Can only burn about 1.5gb to DVD before error. Tried burning Taiyo Yuden and Sony brand -R's. Tried burning WITH Nero 6 and DVD Decryptor. Here's Nero error log on Taiyo's.

See Interpret Nero's Error codes in my signature. This is usually a firmware issue. Try different media - it is certainly not a media quality issue.

    Also:

    Book Type request [LO]: DVD-ROM
Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type
Do not try to change the booktype for -R disks. Read the golden rules of burning in my sig.

    Regards

Further to the above, it appears your burner has incorrect firmware. Known firmware for this burner is shown here. Yours is KYS2.

Thank you for reponding so quick. I'm not sure how I'm trying to change the booktype. I downloaded dvdshrink and dvd decryptor and didn't change a thing. Also, I followed your link and can't figure out where to find the firmware update. Sony's website won't even pull up my burner.

          Regarding firmware:

          Sony DRU-720A, Sony DRU-800A, Sony DW-D26A, and Sony DW-Q28A
          - rebadged LiteOn 3S-v2 drives
          - for more information, consult the LiteOn and LiteOn-Sony alliance DVD-writer overview http://codeguys.rpc1.org/dvdrw_overview.html
          - you can use LiteOn tools/firmwares/etc. for this drive

Thank you for the link. I checked it out and I still can't find a firmware update. The only thing I could find was the frimware to make it region free. Also, could you explain to me how I'm changing the book type?

              From a guide:

Fifth, is the "Burn Settings" tab, here you can select the "Volume Label" & "Burn Speed" & "Book Type" if the "Burn with Nero" is checked in the DVD Shrink preferences. If you do not have "Burn with Nero" checked in DVD Shrink's preferences, it will be grayed out like mine. Here is a screen shot below of what I mean:

              Volume Label:

Here you can set a name for your disc.

              Book Type DVD-ROM

If you are burning with +R/+RW media and your burner supports book type - also called bitsetting - you can select this option. It will fool your stand alone player that the burned disc is a DVD-ROM - which in some cases makes it more playable in your player. Especially with older players it can do the trick.

If you are using -R/-RW discs - make sure it's unchecked otherwise you can end up with a burning error/coaster.

O.K., I uninstalled everything and reinstalled dvdshrink and dvd decrypter. Burner does not support bitsetting and says it burns to -R. Firmware is updated. Media is top notch. Still making coasters. Decrypter error.
