setarip in june: "With no insult intended, based on your apparent limited technical knowledge, you may want to have a technician deal with your problem, rather than risk doing further damage to it yourself..."

Has your system had a clean install?

for not ever giving me the right amd64 driver.

that said, does the usb work right after the clean install???????

I tried to download the update again and got farther, but it says the path of the executable is not in the registry. What does this mean, and how do I fix it? Before I reinstall windows, I want to make sure that a software update will or will not not resolve my problem.

Most usb2 drivers are meant for older OperatingSystems, not windows xp, and
certainly not servicepack2, MS is quite adamant about that.

The thing that stumps me is that my other one was working just fine before...

Got a new computer and had the same problem. Guess I'll have to get another new dvd burner. I'll post an update in the near future.

AVOID LAPTOPS AND EXTERNAL DVD BURNERS,
oh was I yelling, well let me just say they are inherently
                    problematic(they suck).

I got the new burner and it works on my new computer. I'll try it a few times that and let you know if it works on my old comp.

Works on my old computer. I guess my issue was just a bad burner.
