CD-RW won't read anything

Hey everyone,
I was trying to burn a iso file onto a DVD but my CD-RW didn't read it. After that I put a music cd into the CD-RW and looked in my computer to see if it read the CD and it still didn't. Can anyone help me? It would be very much appreciated. Thanks

After I reset the computer and did windows update, the cd-rw could read things again. However, it does not seem to be able to read dvds. For example while in DVD Decrypter, I put a CD-R in the cd-rw and it could tell me things about it like the sector and size and if it was used or not. However, when I put a dvd-r in, it just says like device not ready. tray closed. I have no idea what is wrong.

you need a DVD writer for that. a cd burner won't work.

So I have to go and buy a dvd-writer? But then what would I do with the cd-burner?

well if there is room for it, you can keep it. i still use mine for making the odd vcd, and audio cd to reduce the wear and tear on the dvd burner....other wise you can take it out. they make a great paperweight!

if you want to burn to dvd's, yes.

Oh yea, can you name some good dvd writers for me?

yw. i like lite-on. i have 2 for 2 years now. never had any problems. pioneers are considered high-end too. i'm sure more suggestions will follow this post
