    New DVD burner...now can't burn @ 2x (dvd-r) ???

    Hello All,

    New mbr here

I just bought a new Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1693S and am having a problem trying to burn my dvd backups @ 2x speed (for player compatability)
I'm using Nero 6.6.0.15 and had no problem with my older Lite-On drive could burn (2,4,8) speed with it. But I gave my old drive to my step-son and bought a new one.
Now my only selections are (4, 6, 8,) not x16...my mistake

I have DMA on all my drives and as far as I can tell the latest firmware for this drive. As well as all my updates for WinXP SP-2

Am I just missing a menue selection somewhere in Nero perhaps?

Any info or ideas would be most "welcome"

    Thanks for listening!

    Best Regards to ALL

Welcome to the Digital Digest Video forum Roland44!

    Two possible reasons:
    1. The drive doesn't support anything lower than 4X speed
    2. The media you are trying to burn to doesn't support burning at 2X

with my lite-on sohw-1213s, i lost the ability with my media to burn at 2x also after i upgraded the firmware.

there really is no need for 2x anyway. if you use GOOD media 4x is perfectly fine, and should be read by any player.

Are you using 8x or 16x media? It cannot most of the time go below 4x speed.

Thank you all for the info and replies

Yes...from what I can gather it is because of the drive itself. I was using 8x Ridata media, which I was able to burn at 2x with my older (lite-on) drive. So I knew the media was fine. But everything I can find online shows the 4x-6x-8x) not x16 my bad

I did find a somewhat new firmware upgrade (7/22/05) so I installed that.

And my burns do indeed seem to work fine at 4x in my Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 dvd player! So I'm happy. 12 minute burns are much better than 25 :0

          Thanks again!

Good ripping/burning to all (and to all a good-nite) sorry couldn't resist lol
