Ok, I have a sont dru-710a burner, have it for about a year now. never had a problem with it till last week. I use dvd decrypter and dvd shrink to burn movies, but last week when i went to burn ,my burner was only burning at 0.9x speed instead of the 8x speed i usually burn at,and when i play the movie in my sony dvd player it comes up on the screen ( C:13:70) The disk is dirty. i checked my dma settings to see if they crashed as ive heard this could be the culprit, they were pio so i changed them back to dma only. Ok, so now the burner says burning at 8x speed but im still getting the error message on my player when i play them. i use memorex 8x dvd+r's ,ive never had a problem with them before, im just at my wits end trying to figure this problem out. If anyone could help me figure this out, Iwould kiss the ground you walk on. please lend me a hand.
Trouble with my burner..need help,pleaseeee!

I' m hoping, for your sake and mine, that the problem is with the media. I have been using TDK +R 8X discs that had been working great but now, all of a sudden, the drive can't even read the discs and I get a horrible scratching noise From the little I've read, seems like people don't care too much for Memorex or TDK blank media...maybe this is why lol! -
The latest firmware for your burner (sont dru-710a) is ver BYX4 - is it this one you have installed now?

Try burning at 4x speed, the extra 3 or 4 minutes it takes is well worth the increase in the quality of the burn in most cases.
Also read the Golden rules of burning, and lots of other great tips in the DVDShrink FAQ.

I was trying to send a private message to the original poster to see if he resolved the problem, but i do not have enough posts. So, if you are watching, did you sort it out.
I have a similar problem - my burning speed has suddenly dropped to 0.5 - 0.9 (previously 4+) but i haven't had chance to check my DMA settings yet (my laptop is at home)
I have a further question. If it is my DMA settings or software related, would restoring a ghost image of my drive (taken a few days ago) reset all the settings etc, or are the details kept outside of the drive (e.g. in ROM or BIOS). I am a newbie to all this.Comment

Check your DMA settings - How ? do this -> Go to Control Panel> System> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Right Click Primary IDE channel (and Secondary IDE channel after you finish with Primary)> Properties> Advanced Settings Tab> Transfer Mode or go here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616
Do the above from both "Primary & Secondary IDE channels".
I (We) and you need to look at whats in both "Transfer Mode" and "Current Transfer Mode". Screen shot below is what I'm talking about.
If it is in "PIO" mode. Click the "Driver" tab, and uninstall the driver. Then reboot. Upon rebooting windows will automatically reinstall the driver and it should go back to "DMA" mode.
(Your screen may or may not look the same as my screen shots)Comment
