Burning at 2x only

[FONT=Comic Sans MS]out of nowhere my burner will only burn dvds @ 2x. When i go into nero to manually set speed, it only gives me the the option of max, 2.4, 2, or 1. This drive is capable of doing up to 16x write speed. This is something that has just started.

I have the most current firmware.
The DMA settings are enabled.
I have no virus.
I have shrink encrypt and go into nero burning rom and manually put the files into the TS_Video folder.

Any suggestions??

Do you have a disc in the burner when you face those low speeds?

The discs you are using - what burning speed are they rated for?

Is it a "DEMO" version of Nero? If so, have the "DEMO" expired?

I do have a disc in the drive. Currently it is giving me only the 2x option. The disk are Fuji DVD-R, which should be up to 8x.

The version of Nero Burning Rom I am using is 6.3.1.6...... not a trial as far as I know.

When I put a CDR in the drive, it will let me choose any speed up to 48x. Hmmmm

okay, I've updated to the 6.6 version. Now I can't locate the Burning Rom...... looks totally different.

Start > Programs > Nero > Nero 6 Ultra Edition > Nero Burning ROM

If it shows both 2x and 2.4x. It looks to me like it doesn't recognise the DVD as 2x is for DVD - and 2.4x is for DVD +. It has to be one or the other.

Has the latest version helped?

nwg - using my TY DVD+R disc, I get the option of burning at both 2X and/or 2.4X speed.

I'm not an expert, but:
My recent problem with selecting the burning speed for Maxell disks (rated up to 8x) proved the disks were the culprit. I can select the burning speed with Verbatim disks (rated 2x) just fine. Maybe you could try a different disk brand?

I am still having the 2x burning speed problem. Someone else suggested that I dl the upgrade to Nero, which I did, but now I do not have burning rom. It is still burning at 2x speed thru shrink, but I have no idea how to burn manually now. Any suggestions??

Did you download both the installation package #1 and #2. If so - you should have the program on your computer.

You should find the Nero Burning ROM program here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\nero.exe

yes, i dl pack 1 & 2. dont see the burning rom tho. I will try the site you gave to see if i can get it there.
