    Hi nick,
There's something wrong with the disk, I've highlighted the relevant lines in the log. It sees the disk as made by PRINCO, but there is no MID (Media Identifier) so the burner can't figure out how to burn it properly.

Taelon, DVD-R doesn't show "Meida Specific" in Nero logs.

The media he/she is using is the problem. Princo is not very good media. Please switch to a more reputable, reliable brand of media.

jmet, thanks for the correction. Guess i need to learn when to butt-out since I don't use DVD-R's (or Nero for that matter)

yes, having used several models of lite-on writers i can tell you they definetly do not like princo media---my suggestion to you is to buy some sony or verbatim, and throw those princos in the trash can

well the interesting thing is that i'm able to burn everything ok using nero vision express 3 so i'm thinking that its a software problem or rather hoping that it is as i've bought 100 princo discs on special and don't want to just throw them all out
does anyone have anymore ideas of what it could be
            thanks

In Nero Vision Express, are you burning DVD's? If so, what is the problem? Just use Nero Vision Express to burn and not Nero Burning ROM.

Ever wonder why these disc's were on sale?

i would like to figure out the problem though because there isn't as many steps in nero burning rom as in vision express.i was thinking maybe i need to update my aspi.does anyone know anything about this like how to check what version u have, what version u need and were to get the update from.i was having a dvd shrink problem as well were by i couldn't change the quality settings to get a better picture as it was doing things too quickly.i didn't mind the extra time,i just wanted a far better result.

Run NeroInfoTool, in the Nero Toolkit & click on the ASPI tab, you can check the System ASPI and NeroASPI. My understanding is that if you use Nero it will use the NeroASPI.

You can find alot of info & utilities to set your system ASPI layer here http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm

dvdshrinker101. Mate. Those Princos are pure crap. Buy better disks. I use Riteks, sourced from www.pcx.com.au at 60 cents each. Never had a bad burn in 400+ disks.

                    This is undoubtedly your problem.

PS Your ASPI will be fine - Nero uses its own ASPI.

Take a look at this page it was written specifically about Media for LiteOn drives. Here's a couple excerpts:
Plus or dash? LiteOn drives seem to prefer "plus" media somewhat. While it can burn "dash", it seems from user experiences that "dash" results are a bit more mixed and are not as good as results with "plus" media.

Cheap media? LiteOn drives do not perform well with "cheap" ("junk") media. Media types such as Princo, AML, AN3-, Longten, Infosmart, Lead Data, etc., are generally considered to be junk media and should be avoided. In the long run, they are actually pretty "expensive" because even if they do burn well, these media types tend to be so poorly manufactured that their dyes have been known to degrade just months after being burned. Many generic-branded media types (e.g., HQ, GQ, Sonic, Matrix, etc.) fall into this category.
One other thing you can try would be to crossflash your drive which will basically turn your 812S into a 832S and allow it to use the updated firmware, I'm personally using the CG5G ( patched - improved burn quality) firmware in my OEM 812S with great results (but I only use quality +R media), no idea if it will help you burn the Princo -R's.
