Ummm, tried what? I remember reading that thread and others like it a while back. Nothing is proven or disproven by any of those tests, because the sample is too small. To prove anything you'd need to repeat the tests dozens of times with exactly the same files and media batch codes (not just MID), even then there will be fluctuations due to the media as anyone who has burned and tested a full spindle of blanks can verify.
Temperature and relative humidity of the drive and media would also need to be kept constant, Cpu load, and power supply rails would also need to be monitored to even be considered as a valid proof that one burning program is superior to another. Everybody has there own opinion as to what works best, so even the person performing the test would need to be kept unaware of which media they were testing at a given time so that prejudice didn't influence the outcome.
Bottom line is, whatever works best for you is what counts, and until some impartial lab invests the time and money necessary to perform in-depth testing, threads such as that one should be viewed as being 'entertainment purposes only'.
I think just using better media and different burners would do well enough.
Using a high quality media would eliminate variables within the media, if several people ran the test(say nero6.6/iso/vid-ts vs DvDDC) we might see a trend, I have not seen
anything that would indicate proof that DvDDecrypt is better yet.
BTW never use paper towels on any dvd.
rbtl,
Here's the thing, take your high quality media and scan it with Nero CD-DVD Speed, Kprobe or whatever you like, then re-scan the same disk 10 times. I'd be willing to bet that no two scans will be identical. Now throw in all the other variables related to burning the media, how can you draw any conclusions?
Regarding paper towels, I'll be posting an updated guide soon that eliminates the reference, which was mention in the post asking for feedback here.
