Hard disk recorder connection to PC

I Have a Thomson DTH7000 hard disk recorder and i have just found some great software to import these thomson hard disk files to my PC. ( http://dcadiou.free.fr/DTH7000/index.htm ) Its good stuff and really easy. However it does involve removing the hard disk from the thomson unit and installing it in the pc. I'm a bit of a newbie so run with me here. Could i somehow run a usb cable from my pc to an external usb drive enclosure in which i put the thomson hard drive but (i think this is the problem) also have the IDE from the hard disk recorder connected to the enclosure aswell?? If you understand, i'm trying to get away from having to physically move the thomson hard disk everytime so having the DTH,the usb enclosure and the pc connected together at the same time. Does anyone know what i mean ?? Any ideas ??

If I were to play with that toy of yours I would connect the composite video output to a PVR capture card and capture the files to PC that way....

    DHT7000

Also it has a USB port (that is used to connect a card reader to tranfer files to the DTH7000) that could be used to explore other possibilities...

I would certainly try all these outputs and see the results....

What u suggest seems that theoritically if this connection survives the attempt both on PC and DHT the DHT HDD would have to be set to slave... (assuming it can and it hasnt been customised to prevent tampering...

Well, I would certainly have a go but I dont have it you do.... Dont play with things you cant afford to loose or return as faulty....
