Good or bad: Burning DVDs consecutively

I've been backing up DVDs using NEC ND-3540A with Verbatim 8X DVD-R 94985 without any coasters. Following some advices from this great forum I've lowered the burn speed to 2x.

My friend told me I should not burn DVDs consecutively as the burner needs sometimes to 'cool off'. Is this a fact or just a belief?

    Thanks for your input,
    Regards.

Using a Nec 3520 and burning at 16X I have never had any problems burning several discs in a row.

I'd say it depends on your hardware. In a well ventilated tower case, there should be no problem, but perhaps in a laptop or in an external enclosure some cool off time would be a good idea.

        i agree...

nsw2200, its usually quite safe to burn at 4X, i say you test it out, and go back to 2x only if you have problems

I've probably done up to 10 Dvds or so in a row. No problems. I do take the side cover of my PC off and run a small external fan into the case towards the drives. I wouldn't recommend this unless you're PC is a relatively clean environment. I also make sure to vacuum out my PC every two weeks or so.

          My DVD's... seriously.

Woo, and I thought I was a procrastinator. I believe in the saying don't back up (in this case burn) what you don't mind losing, but 17 ripped DVD's ??? It's a good thing you ain't got a monstrous HDD.

Intermittent torture is better than a prolonged torture where the victim usually passes out and don't feel anything and sometimes dies. Same for a burner.

Me neither, no way I would wait to do 17 movies in one day, unless I had a couple 8 bay duplicators.

yeah i kind of have a system, my target size is always the same, so a dvd always takes 13:25 or so to burn (4x). i hit burn, note the time and watch a movie on the tv, every 14 min i pause it and go back to the computer and do the next one till i'm done. 17 was the most i did in one shot , i think 5 now has to be my limit for "batch burning"....
