NEC ND - 2100AD 103D won't identify media

Using DVDInfoPro to identify Media ID I get this error message:
“Your drive does not support the commands required to read MID codes on this media”
DVD Identifier is also unable to read the Media ID.
Anybody know if there is a firmware update or other method of resolving this difficulty.
This is the Dell OEM Version of NEC2500 drive - anyone know - does that have similar restriction?
Apart from this glitch I find the drive excellent.
The reason the issue arose is that I usually use Verbatim DVD+R with excellent results at reasonable price - currently can't get these so bought
Imation DVD+R 8x instead and was trying to identify the Media ID to gain some sense of their quality... ho hum

Ver 106F is the latest firmware for that Dell burner.

Like I said DVD Identifier won't read this drive and neither will DVDDecryptor.
Thanks also for the link Cynthia I guess I need to find out what can and can't be achieved with firmware for this drive.

I can see your concern about the MID, looks like it could be any of 4. Although I think they are all basically middle of the road quality, nothing that's great, but nothing that's total junk either. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.ph...+or+List+Media

I got this reply over on another forum from Brother Vlad - so it's a hardware issue and there is no fix...
"Not a glitch. A great deal of +R drives are unable to determine the media identifier on a DVD+R before the disc is burned, only after. Some newer models do support this, however it's not something we've ever bother to track. With DVD-R the media identifier is readable before and after a disc is burned."

deepintheforest, I've never heard that before, if anything I thought it was the other way around. I've seen nero logs for -R's that don't show the MID, never seen a +R without one. Did you try the firmware that cynthia mentioned, or is that what you're already running?

I guess I'm accepting that the Dangerous Brothers over on the Firmware Page know about this particular side of things.
What is clear now is that I can read the Media ID on a burnt disc so I only need to burn one and check...
