Discussion on "Last address to be written" in Nero's logfile

I came across this by looking at alot of Nero logfiles that had "write" errors. Here's one with this in log.

3:16:00 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 245
Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2204831 (489:57.56, 4306MB)

Now, I checked in DVD Shrink on its Target DVD Size and here are the defaults.

DVD-5(4.7GB) = 4464MB
DVD-9(8.5GB) = 8124MB

So, if a DVD-9 was shrunked to a DVD-5 (4464MB), how would that DVD fit on a blank DVD that was analyzed with a "Last address to be written" at a lower MB? It's OK with the "Last possible write address on media" at 4482MB.

Now, here's a log with a Power Calibration error.

This would be be sufficient enough for a 4464Mb backup.

I think you're confusing the issue. Nero's "Last address to be written" is a calculation of the current compilation size. "Last possible write address on media" is the info from the media to be written to.

As long as "Last address to be written" < "Last possible write address on media" there shouldn't be any problem, and (489:57.56, 4306MB) < 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB).

DVD-5 MB capacities

DVD-R = 4489MB
DVD+R = 4482MB

If I did a ISO on a backup DVD-R, how would I fit that on a DVD+R I'm burning to? Food for thoughts...

The "Last possible write address on media" will display the MB to what media format is detected. This is common knowledge. I'm still curious to test if the "Last address to be written" part is a media check or a compilation check.

I just did a DVD-9 to DVD-5 and using a DVD+R to burn. This is what Nero had detected for my backup root folder with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders.

Now, I went and did another burn with a DVD less than a GB and burning to same brand of DVD blank. This is to test if the "Last address to be written" part really checks my less than 1GB compilation.



And guess what?...you were right! I just wanted to see it for myself.
