    DVD-R Troubles

After formatting my harddrive due to a PC virus that refused to be cured, I can't burn to DVD-R anymore. I've tried different media including some expensive Sony stuff, but I get the same failure everytime.
    DVD+R burns fine

I'm using the same hardware (Iomega DVDRW 4216IND-A) as before and the same software (Nero 6.6.0.16). apart from the harddrive format nothing has changed.

One thing I have noticed from the BIOS, but again I haven't had the cover off the PC so how could this have changed is that the DVD burner is the secondary master, and my other drive is the primary slave.
    Is this the correct configuration?

    Any help appreciated

Hi and welcome to the forum, NSaints!

What burning program do you use?

      Hi Cynthia

I've got along fine with DVD Shrink, whilst using Nero to burn.
Since the reformat and the start of my problems
I've tried DVD Decrypter also but same results....nothing.

Out of desperation I even installed my copy of DVd X Copy.

I've even tried creating a data DVD using just Nero and I get the same burn failure.

I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue

Can you post your Nero logfile? Found in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero

Also, your DVD Decrypter log too in a separate post.

OK will do. Need an hour or so

Just had a response from IOMEGA. They want me to scrap nero and use their software before they discuss further. Understandable I suppose, as they wouldn't want to get involved in issues between their Hardware and Nero.

I'll continue with the DV forums support unless we hit a brickwall

Firmware needs to be updated. There's a v1.22 here.

Something looks wrong here. The many logs I've looked at have these commonly set to 0 h. I'll need to do some research here. You upgrading your firmware might correct this.

Though your Sony DVD-Rs are good from what I've read around, you might want to try another media brand as your Sony blanks might not be compatible with your burner.

the discs are better than the drive. those 08 d1's are what i have been using for a while now and 200+ burns later not ever a skip or failed burn. too bad the drive don't like them

like 2cool says, if there is a firmware update you gotta try that. otherwise try a verbatim disc and see what happens.

I've tried the link within the web site posted and the page is unavailable....damn!!

I've also tried Memorex and Bulkpaq media.....exact same results.........incompatible format
Hey this is a multi-format drive I have

I'm getting some blue datawrite delivered in the week. The drive used to write to this media OK. Maybe the drive is ultra sensative to the media it uses?

In the meantime 'Is it possible that a drive can suddenly stop writing to DVD-R?'

I know I'm grasping at straws but it still writes to Memorex DVD+R OK!!

                          1.22 Firmawre page unavailable

                          I can't find a reference to 1.22 anywhere else

The manufacuters are still using 1.21 which I have already

This site uses the same link as I posted above

I think all I can do is wait for the blue Datwrites to come through the post...these used to work
If these don't work the the drive must be screwed

This is when I buy one of these http://www.gltec.co.uk/productinfo.php?id=550
