Caefull of those type of laqure disks. They are cheap because the silver layer can scratch off from the top of the disk. They may burn fine but be careful. Compare the top side the disk to more expensive labled media such as verbatium, maxell, or sony and you'll see what i mean. DO NOT expose them to moisture. This greatly increases the chances of bubbelling. Think of water on a photograph and the results.Comment

Sun eats the hell out of cheap laquer. then it scratches, bubbles etcComment

If there is no protective layer covering the laquer then I personally would not buy them. Ive been using DVD's since they were released and have found this out the hard way.
Your right sun and extreme heat in general will damage the low quality media. I even had an ocassion where i was bringing a disk from my car to the office during a drizzle and upon wiping off the moisture from the disk parts of the silver laquer flaked off.
Im not saying that those disks in particular are bad but the cheaper the media the more likley that the disk has less hardcoat on both the top and bottom. The better the proctective technology the more expensive. Ive seen someone take a screwdriver and write thier name on a Verbatium with VideoGard and it still played flawlessly.Comment

You could probably do the same to the top of any DVD, the integrity of the label side of a DVD is nowhere near as critical as it is on a CD.

Now, a few words about Meritline. I have on occasion read reports where someone had a problem with the order, and they complained that Meritline's Customer Service was frustrating to deal with. Some reports specified a possible language / communication gap. In fairness, I could see where the same thing might happen with Supermediastore, based on the two times I have spoken to their customer service. Again, I have not had any of these problems myself.
BUT... a few months ago, Meritline did offer up some discs which were listed as "HQ HIGH QUALITY TAIYO YUDEN" DVD blank media. If you clicked on the Taiyo Yuden link from the main page, you ended up looking at a list which included these discs, as well as many other products. The problem? Those "HQ HIGH QUALITY TAIYO YUDEN DISCS" were not in fact manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. They were actually a brand called "HIGH QUALITY," and Meritline put the misleading information on the web site because (according to them) those discs were "manufactured according to Taiyo Yuden standard [SIC]." When people asked if they were Taiyo Yuden, this was their response, via E-Mail.
There were people who bought those discs, thinking they were getting the real thing. I was fooled at first, and I daresay most would have been, since a link led me to them, and they actually used this wording.
To their credit, after complaints about this, Meritline has removed those discs from the Taiyo Yuden link-through, and they have removed the reference to "Taiyo Yuden." However, this is the sort of thing that bothers me about Meritline-- one has to be very careful, and stay on top of the recent developments.
Here is the current page which has those same "HQ" discs. Note that there is no reference now to Taiyo Yuden, and also that they no longer even use the words "HIGH QUALITY." The ""HIGH QUALITY" is what "HQ actually stands for.
I try to buy from either Supermediastore, or from the "best" -- which is company named www.Rima.com

I have only had 3 orders from supermedia, other than their web interface
being relatively primitive(yahoo crud), service and price have been superb.
They ship free ground from cal to SE usa in less than a week, I watch their
free shipping specials. TY's w/ sleeves 35cents 200pk come and go,
still ordering 200(2x100) and paying shipping is only 35 cents/ea for
media made in Japan.Comment
