    Please run the Nero Info Tool and check the ASPI tab. Be sure to check the System ASPI and Nero ASPI from the drop-down box. If you're system ASPI is not installed correctly then read the instructions and download Force ASPI

    I recommend using ForceASPI this way:

    * Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
    * Run killASPI
    * Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
    * Reboot
    * Run aspichk or Nero Info Tool to see if everything worked OK

      Hi Taelon

      What does it make this forum so great? This question is so easy to answer:

      Because it has people like you, blutach, cynthia, jmet, 2COOL, and many others who devote themselves to help the forum members without having anything in return. For example with this thread, I bet you have spent so much time searching for all the different methods to fix the problem which you can't even test to see the difference on your computer because that particular problem doesn't happen to your PC yet, just in hope to be able to find the right solution for helping members in the future. I would like to represent all the forum members (if allowed to) to say THANK YOU for helping us

      Regards

        thanks for your response, the aspi seems to be working ok and doesnt appear to be the problem.

        I have complained to pioneer about the problem and they advised all the procedures i have already tried...and now reccomend me to return it to their manufacturer (at my cost)

        I am furious as it is brand new, and i have had it less than a week and been trying to get it to work this whole time, and now i have to return it to them at my cost and risk having to pay a fee if the drive is infact not faulty on their side

        GRRRRR

        any other ideas to try?

          After reading some threads Taelon's support about reading and burning DVDs, I realized that I had to try the ForceASPI 1.7 to experience the difference. It is totally unbelievable that my NEC ND-1300A could read and back up successfully my two old DVDs with DVD Shrink. In the past, I couldn't back them up with DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter with all kind of errors. I hope that some of our members who have the problems with backing up DVD please give it a try and post the results of their tests so that we can improve to be better in the future. Thank you Taelon for your research

          Regards

            Sure sounds like a system problem since this is the second burner you've had trouble with. Lets take a closer look at the log:
            Nero Version: 6.6.0.8
            Install the Update, but first see my comments at the end Nero v6.6.0.16
            Recorder: <PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109> Version: 1.58
            This is the latest firmware I can find listed anywhere.
            DiskPeripheral : ST3120026A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
            CdRomPeripheral : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On
            There shouldn't normally be a problem with a harddrive and burner on the same channel, but sh!t happens. For testing purposes I think you should remove the harddrive and put the burner as Secondary Master (be sure to change the jumper, and while you're in there be sure to put the burner on a seperate power cable (not shared with other drives, fans, etc that would be drawing power when the burner is active).

            Ok this is what I would suggest you do, in this order:

            1) Uninstall Nero (be sure you have your serial # available)
            2) Run these 2 Nero Clean tools
            * Nero General Clean Tool
            * Nero Driver Cleander & Registry Checker
            3) Shut down the system, disconnect the secondary mater hard drive & move the burner to secondary master, see notes above.
            4) Power on computer and boot into Safe Mode (F8)
            5) Go into Device manager and remove any and all device listed under CD/DVD drives and also remove the listing for the hard drive you removed.
            6) Reboot into XP normally, let windows find the new DVD drive, then check device manager and make sure DMA is still enabled for both Primary & Secondary channels under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
            7) Install the latest Nero v6.6.0.16 but do not install InCD packet software.
            8) Try a burn and post your new log file

              benbryant, Glad forceASPI helped you. Actually I'm kind of surprised that it would make a difference with DVDDecrypter since it uses SPTI interface in XP systems, but I guess there's always the chance of an internal conflict.

                      I would try a different brand. INFODISC is not very good, neither is the MKM stuff you were using either.

                      Get some Verbatim DVD+RW's.

                            Its not the name on the package, its who makes the dye. Mitsubishi, TDK, Memorex, and as well as the other "cheap" ones all have crappy dye.
