TYG03 will only play in some dvd players

k so ive done the research and burnt a tonne of disks using maxell's and they seemed to work fine, but wont work on certain dvd players. reading on here i figured that i would purchase some tyg03 disks and my problem woud be solved. BUT NO! still wont play on certain dvd players. i am using dvd shrink and dvd decrypter to burn. no problems with the dvd's at all on the players that do play them, but then again certain players are just unable to play the disks. a friend of a friend is also using these exact disks... i know this because it comes up as tyg03 on dvd decrypter when i open it up, and his disks play fine on my dvd player. the guy wont say what programs hes using to burn... wondering if this would make a difference, or what should i do? im stumped!

Some DVD players, mainly cheap ones, will be picky with ALL media.

It's almost impossible to find discs that will play in each and everyone of them. Good old Ritek G04 (not available anymore and anyway recent production was crappy) was the near-perfect compatible media.

This said, I guess you bought TYG03 because you heard TY discs were excellent and very compatible. This is true, but this reputation comes from the TYG02 discs. TYG03 is rather new and there are not many reports concerning compatibility...

Also you have to make sure your burner has a recent firmware so to burn these discs with high quality (always stay close to the rated speed, don't burn them @4X!). If the burns have lots of low-level errors, (referred to as PIE/PIF) some players won't be able to read them.

If this fails, check TDK -R 8X discs (TTG02). They're very good and extremely compatible. I used to advise Verbatim 8X -R (MCC 02RG20) but the quality control went downhill recently.

People spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a dvd collection and backing up, then try to watch on old players, a good midrange player can be had for 60-70$, it's not worth worrying about outdated or crappy players.
I had more problems at 8x with problematic players than at 4x.

Excellent point! It always stiked me that people complaint about discs compatibility when the player is most of the time the "real" culprit.

Of course it's paramount to use good media, but if a player refuses proven good discs, it's in the end cheaper to buy a good player than to start reburning on lots of different discs until the "compatible" disc is found...

My players (an old Pioneer DV-535 and a more recent JVC DR-M10) eat everything at throw at them, with the exceptions of very, very bad discs/burns.

Just a thought... is it possible that your friend is merely burning at a slower (and more stable) speed, which might mean his burns are less prone to errors, while you are burning at a much higher rate of speed, and ending up with discs with too many errors for the DVD players that are more "picky" about such things?

I have two burners which can burn at 16X. However, even with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim media, my 16 X burns usually choke up if I try them on one of my DVD players. At 4X and 8X, the same discs have yet to fail.
