dust doesn't scratch a disc, but may cause it to skip, it's the cleaning of the dust that will eventually cause scratches.

It will affect the burning. If the burning doesn't fail then, any dust or dirt gets lasered and a dark purple stain appears on the disc. On playback the DVD player will difficulty reading the DVD at this point on the disc.Comment

usually, the dvd does not roll anymore, though in some cases you can continue using it.. so i would not say that dust affects the dvd badly but sand or other stuff like that surely doesComment
