The problem with LG firmwares

Never tried to burn with mine over 4x, so couldn't tell, but if there was no write strategy for those types of disks it would have defaulted to the generic I guess.
Funny they didn't mention Ritek in their petty response, which have been brilliant for me (the R03s).
Wonder if there's a utility that can make this drive read PI/PIFs - my only bugbear with LG. Does anyone know?

MediaCodeSpeedEdit by Ala42 is a great tool for media tweaks in a supported burner for adding/changing media write strategies. Omnipatcher by the Codeguys is great for LiteOn's and supported Sony clonesNot registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums

With apologies to Blu and Lt for maligning LG burners and 4x burning,
I reflashed BY THE BOOK, disconnected primary master(tosh combo),
booted into safe mode(which disables dma AND stops any crud from loading)
loaded the factory 105 firmware and am now burning at 4x on the Ritek's
R04's(16x dvd+r's).Comment

Sorry guys,
Lt: the 8x burn on the nec slightly beats at 4x 97 vs 96%
Blu: The LG firmware is seriously flawed, the lg burns at 4x and 8x
yield quality scores that rival cmc mags for lack of quality.
This media from newegg is problematic at best with the LG burner!
The LG is officially retired from burning, it's now a locked(rip)
RESTINPEACE reader, slaved to the tosh combo drive. My spare
NEC 3520 will be it's replacement, it(w/mature firmware is a very
good scanner and burner).Comment

Strange you say that about the LG - I have never had a bad burn with the 4163B or its predecessor the 4081B.

man covering so many bases,
"HAVE YOU EVER BURNED ANY R04'S?"
THIS IS AN 8X SCAN BURNED WITH NEC AT 4X, after reflash the LG
does better at 4x, it sort of plays and scans, but there are more red
than yellow PIF's and since quality hits 0 early in the scan I abort.
This same burner makes excellent disks of TY 4x dvd-r that scan 99
time after time, so I assume it the firmware. Some sort of power calibration glitch?????????????????????????Attached FilesLast edited by Chewy; 20 Oct 2005, 09:17 PM.Comment

if it's broke fix it
A105>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>nec(oem)AN16
what the heck
<HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B>Version: AN16 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.16
4x burns on LG(still an LG) still won't scan but an interesting development
16x burns on LG now beat the 8x burns with old firmware
PIE 66.23 PIF .18 QC 96
Burn process started at 16x (22,160 KB/s) 5 minutes 4.2 gigs
any theories Blu?Comment

Look like nice #s. Are you saying this new firmware turns it into something which will scan for PI/PIFs? Desperate here for that in an LG.
