    Sony D-11-00 Media

    Hi,
Anyone having problems with media sold by Sony with mid Sony D-11-00?
    Here's why I ask:

I'm using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, with a Plextor 708-A burner, firmware 1.07.

I bought two 50-disk spindles of Sony DVD+R 8x blank media; I always burn at 4x, though. One was from Staples, the other was from CompUSA. The Staples were media ID YUDEN000-T02-00. They have worked fine.

The CompUSA were media ID SONY-D-11-00. I've had nothing but problems with them. I've only burned 4, and here are the results:

    1) plays on pc, but not on any set tops
    2) at about 4gb, got a DVD Decrypter I/O error
    3) plays on pc, and only on Sony set top
    4) at about 4gb, got a DVD Decrypter I/O error

    The I/O error is:
    Device: [1:1:0]Plextor DVDR PX-708A 1.07 (F(ATA)
    ScsiStatus: 0x02
    Interpretation: Check Condition
    CDB 2A 00 00 03 F5 60 00 00 20 00
    Interpretation: Write(10)-Sectors: 259424 - 259455
    Sense Area: F0 00 03 00 06 F5 60 0A 00 00 00 00 0C 07 00 00 00 00
Interpretation: Write Error - Recovery Needed

A few retries did no good.

I will upgrade my firmware, but does anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

    Thanks,
    BMB

I am pretty sure this is your sony media

I used your model of burner, it was very reliable, however I was always
updating the firmware(at least Plex keeps putting out updates/better
    late than never)
Your version is quite old "Date posted: June 21, 2004" real real old
I would definitely flash to 1.11

if you examine the packages closely, one would have said made in Japan, the other
made in Tawain, before I started buying online, I tried to get made in Japan.
YUDEN000(genuine TY's) are only made there to the best of my knowledge
however cheaper clones(not fakes) made in Hong Kong are coming out.

Yep, that's my media (I use DVEInfoPro/DVD Decrypter to see codes), and that's the firmware update.
Sure wish that vendors would print media codes on their packaging so we'd know what we were buying, rather than finding out after cracking open the package.

Look for made in JAPAN, it's there somewhere, in small print.
