My scan was of a DL disk though. They don't burn near as well as SL. Here is an OK one of mine

My tyg01's burn at 8x just about like that 12x burn on the benq

I am probably gonna order that benq soon.

Odd though isn't it how many more, and higher PIE you get? Perhaps it doesn't truly matter, at least in the short run, but still...........

Love the BenQ. Try to get an August if you can. Seems to be the better drives. Mine came from NewEgg for about $40.

that's a function of the scanner, it's chipset and firmware and how errors
are reported, my LG burns match my NEC one's and are consistent.

There is too much variation in scanners. All in all the technology is very
immature. BTW we need to send Blutach a Benq!

Here's what I consider a bad scan
TY clone out of HongKong, burned on LG won't hardly finish,
with one of my NEC's, tolerable.

why we need BenQ's

My LG 4163B makes perfect burns of the TYG01, but with ritek G04's
a lot of coasters at 4x but not at 16x. firmware been there done that
LG's don't scan PIE/O, now consider the YUDEN000 T02 clone media,
that media code should be established enough, disks were manufactured
with imported dyes etc from Japan, technology lisc. from philips,
burn decent(barely) in NEC's.
Here's what happens when the LG burns them. At least if I abort early enough the scan doesn't lock the computer. The disk actually played
about halfway thru(1hr10min mark) when I checked.
The LG is quite good for slow slow rips of problematic disks.

You gotta crappy drive or crappy media there rbrtpl! My LG4163B is a beaut! Combine it with Ritek R03 and Verbatim double layers and I still have nothing to put under our coffee mugs.

A lot of tests results and scans show that some media burn better at higher speeds than at low speeds.
