    Can only burn at 2x

Just started using my 16x Memorex DVD-R discs. It would only burn at 2x. I had just used Memorex 8x DVD-R discs and they burned with no problem at 8x. I have a a NEC ND 3500AG DVD+-R burner. I went to the NEC webpage and it says that the drive is able to burn at 16x. I was using DVD Shrink 3.2 (I think) and Nero 6.6. Could it be that Nero cannot burn at 16x?

take a look at the above link , it sounds like you have dma problems

make sure you have the newest firmware for your drive too http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1904 2.1a is the one you should have

you could try burning them with imgburn as an alternative

Now I have an OEM burner. Will that firmware be alright to use or it doesn't really matter. Because I was reading on the NEC webpage to talk to the manufactorer if it is an OEM drive.

OEM just means I got just the drive. It didn't come in a box or with and booklets. The name of the burner I stated at the beginning of the post. Don't know what you mean by name.

That meaning of the word "OEM" vs retail. Fine, anyway it's a true NEC!
Some companies rebadge(rebrand) other companies burners but use
their own firmware and those too are called oem.
            NEC is the drive manufacturer!
