Burning curiousity

This may not be th eforum for this query so someone could direct me elsewhere.
My in built cd/dvd writer isnt burning cd's,it goes through the process but the disc remains blank(still usable)it burns dvds with no problems.I have a Toshiba laptop 6 weeks old so have no previous good CD burns to judge.
Help appreciated

If you're using Nero, you probably got it on test mode (simulation box is checked on the burn tab).

Im using Windows Xp desktop burner(drag to a writing folder) maybe I try Nero,though.
