Excellent strategy Chewie, using my own posts against me. LOL! See, I do not need new firmware to burn normal 8x discs. Not sure about DL's though because I am new with DL's.

Still don't know how to find the firmware.

The Firmware Revision box is empty.

open decrypter in iso write mode- right click on your drive and choose capabilities. your firmware is listed there

Yes, but how do I change the booktype?
It says to select my drivetype but my drive is not listed.

Same thing there. No firmware.

All I did when I got the drive was install the Nero OEM that came with it.

What about it?

Either "bin" it or get another DVD writer or CD-R/DVD-ROM "combo" drive for CD-R burning (while keeping TS-H552U for other purposes.)

What does that have to do with this situation?

I just do not know how to change the booktype is all.

try using imgburn to burn . bitsetting for samsung is supported .

bitsetting? What is that? And doesn't imgburn need to know the number of cells in the first layer? I forgot that number.
