Always the lowest possible supported speed.

I burn at 4X the majority of the time, even though I have a 16X burner and am using 16X rated disc. I've only burnt at 16X for testing purposes.

You need to add a Min and Max option. I do the fastest that gives me a good burn. My 3540 is burning everything at or above the max rated speed of the media with no problems. The jury is still out of DL media.

the verdict is in on the D01's, guilty as charged, pretty sure the judge is going
with the homicide charge, murdering a movie.

Yeah, but this is about speed and I only have 1 choice. 2.4x. I'll give a full report once I figure out what the (insert favorite word) is going on.

This poll was not meant to address DL burning, as I still consider the technology very iffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffy.

note 3rd scan added to show effect of lowering burn speed from 16x to 8x!

usually I burn at the rated speed provided the blank media is good quality. For playing purposes I haven't seen any real difference in burning speed. My dvd players play the burnt dvd's without any problems

Well as opposed to my really previous post, with the Sh-S203b & DLs I don't want to burn any lower than 4X & with the newer DL media have found that 6X is mostly the sweet spot. For SL, my main burn speed is 12X. that is with this drive only.
