I've had five coasters, all my fault. Not the media or the burners. Set them up for the burn wrong.

Chewy, I know you're adamant about having your backup's last for years, but I'm OK with them lasting for a couple of years. I will watch the back-ups and re-back up if and when necessary. Besides, by the time my back-ups start to rot, DVD will probably be obsolete anyway. Do you watch your originals or your back-ups? I watch my backups for a few reasons. 1) If my daughter puts finger prints on them, I don't care. 2) I don't like to push 10 buttons before watching the movie and 3) I love not having a layer break.Beauty is in the eye of the Beer-Holder.

TNT,
Well I haven't been burning dvd's that long, first burner was a Pioneer
4x dash R only. I bought some real crap for media, some with no mid code.
A lot of the originals were badly damaged, I became an expert at repair and extraction of digital data.
Some of my originals have never seen a standalone player.
I detest menus, only watch flat dvd's. I would rather not have to repeat
the backup process. The latest kung fu series(3) I bought off Amazon
was 4 dvd-18? flipper disks, took forever to back them up to 8 disks.
At my age, if they last 10-15 yrs that will be fine.
Obsolete, NEVER! Shudder!Comment

Yeah, I have a feeling Blue Ray may not catch on just as DVD-A and SACD aren't.Beauty is in the eye of the Beer-Holder.
