Oops. I meant it is just a CD player now. It won't play any DVD's without skipping/freezing. It also doesn't even recognise any DL+R's.

Obviously you tried cleaning the lens? Cyberhome does have some firmware updates that you can get. I had to e-mail the tech support department, but I was able to get a firmware update.
