Hi folks;

Just a suggestion for admin....that maybe we need a new subdivision....addressing dual layer burning issues (of which there are many

For myself i'm having about a 50% failure rate at this time (or optomistic 50% success rate

As this new (DL) format becomes more widespread....there are definately many burning issues to contend with,and we need to share our ideas...no?

Hopefully the price will come down on media,but in the meantime every tidbit of help could save an expensive coaster!

As I try to "dial in" which programs work or don't with my Pioneer 110D...it would be good to have a forum dedicated to DL.

To minimise problems just use DVD Decrypter.

Also, use decent media. Verbatims are best if you can afford them.

The Pioneer should be fine for DL burning. I have a 109 which has been great so far.

I would recommend using ImgBurn to burn your DL media. First make a ISO of the DVD using DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and then burn the ISO with ImgBurn. Get ImgBurn here: http://www.dvdr-digest.com/software/imgburn.html

That would be good. Also, difference between Double Layer and Dual Layer as not many know about the two. It can cause people to buy the wrong discs and due to the price of discs, could be costly.

Thanks for the suggestion. As far as I can tell, the blank media and burning forum is intended to cover all burning and media issues (that are not program-related, eg. ImgBurn).

I'd recommend that original posters use meaningful thread titles to indentify if their issue is a DL one.

Oh but it does, specially if you are using "new" hardware that DVD Decrypter doesn't support.

However, if DVD Decrypter works fine for writing then, there is no difference with Imgburn from what I seen.

For me it makes a HUGE difference, because Decrypter can't do bitsetting on my Samsung drive, but ImgBurn can. That is about the only difference (bitsetting for Samsungs).

Is that with a DL though?

If DVD Decrypter can read a DVD, then it should be able to burn as well. Most DL writers automatically bitset to DVD ROM as without it, compatibility with players would be a lot less.

plus you get support from the author himself , you won't get any with decrypter

pioneer sets the booktype itself , all those in the imgburn booktype setup have to be set by the programme

My LG does not automatically bitset (after a restart of XP) - PITA that. Happily, both DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn make it simple.
