    My first Memorex coaster!

was preparing some lasagna, looked over to the pc just to look at nero progress bar and saw momentarily, the buffers fluttering like a bat outta hell. (never happens obviously) it didn't revert to PIO mode either. anyway, it burned for a minute more with buffers stable then i looked back and sure enough, "burn process failed at 4x". Bastard! i took that disc and hucked it across the room nearly clipping Mrs. columbo in the kisser and put another disc in. burned fine (log at bottom). i've burned about 12 so far perfect till this one.

REASON: ritek G05. first time i ever had memorex discs other than CMC MAG. log on top is the fail. Only reason i got these cause they were out of bloody sony's. where the buffers fluttered it created a nice burn ring (within the burn ring). 12 discs in to this, a coaster. hundreds of sony's and CMC's, not 1 skip or ever a coaster.

(some parts of logs cut due to character limits)

I had another recent post where jmet said Memorex were among the worst media. I have never had a problem with them but how do you tell if the batch you have is crappy. I already thru the wrapper away. Is it on the disc? It was interesting to hear others who use Memorex as they are really cheap at Walmart. I have about 75 blanks of DVD-r and +r's. I have had real good luck with this batch.

Those G05 sure have a rotten rep.

Maybe make it a golden rule of burning - no G05s!

dvd decrypter and most nero logs will also tell you the ID code. i picked up the same discs as always from the same aisle, same shelf--oh well. i'm going to see if i can swap some of these with a relative.

@blu, when wal-mart sells ty for cheap, i'll buy. but this is really just a unique situation as i had to "settle" on this stuff this time. my burner likes either. it's my toshiba standalone that pukes at +r.

i knew chewy would mention the nero! lol, no sir-re bob. i know that with this version it suits my normal media purchases perfect, so for now still, i will leave it

Ritek G05 is only worth bothering with if they are Ritek Ridisc Extreme discs. Any other G05 suffer from poor quality control due to not being made by Ritek themselves.

I am still using G04 and as I still have 150 of them. I will be using them for some quite time. I don't burn faster than 4x anyway and that is less than 50% of the time.
