    Hardware info burned onto media?

This thread implies that your burner actually burns identifying information onto the DVD that you are recording.

    This dvd has been copied

Is this true? If some burners record their serial number (or other identifying information) onto every DVD or CD burned, then are there others that don't do this? This is new information to me.

I read the entire thread carefully, and I believe that you are referring to this one statement, made by the original poster. He wrote the following:

"I understand that when a dvd is burned, the burners serial number is placed on the disk..."

This is not true, or at least it is certainly not true with any of the burning software that I am familiar with. I suspect this statement was based on some third party report from someone who did not know exactly what he or she was taling about. Or, it was based on a statement from someone who was confused because there are various programs that analyze a disc, and those same programs also often report information about the player that is used during the disc analysis. I am referring to programs such as Nero's CD/DVD Speed program, or Nero Infotool, or even the log files from such programs as DVDDecrypter, etc. They often report everything they can about the media, and then they often report some very specific information about the DVD drive and the computer which is being used to READ the disc for the purposes of the test. This has nothing to do with reporting information about the unit that burned that disc.

    Hope this helps,

    -Bruce

Quite a few burners actually embed their serial number on the media.

sounds like a good tweak for a burning program to disable

DVDInfoPro can see what the serial number is on a disc.

            See this thread.

A modified version of DVDXCOPY Platinum puts a msg on the DVD. See my post in the mentioned thread.
