    Help in burning DVD

hi I am a newbie here

I managed to use dvdshrink 3.2 to rip my dvd into my hdd and then use nero 7 (the trial version) and burn it into verbatim dvd R.

Now I cant read the some of the contents . Read this forum very informative so use nero cd-dvd and scan my burn dvd and found alot of 70% good and 24.5% is bad and 5.5% is damaged.

I can view the first and second hr in the pc . Able to play 1 hr in dvd player but not the second one. Third hr cant played in pc and dvd player.

Sigh.. can anyone help me or advise me ?

I am using Acer latop with build in DVD RW drive ..
    Nero 7 trial version
    Verbatim dvd R

    Burn using nero 7 at 2x (nero 7 only give me option of 1 x or 2x dun have 4 x )

    Pls help... sob sob

    Hi droozy,

Please post the Nero log so we can find down the problem with your Nero. You can it from your PC root program directory:

    C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core

IMHO, Nero 7 is still very buggy and it will take a while before becoming usable. Please stay away from it. I would recommend you to burn your Video DVDs with DVD Decrypter or Imgburn

    Regards

              Hi benbryant

Actually I have gone through this link before re DMA. I have removed the primary IDE channel and allow the laptop to re detect again ...again butit looks like it is still the same .

              Device 0
              DEvice type : Auto detection
Transfer mode : DMA if available .
Current transfer mode : Ultra DMA mode 5

              Device 1
              Device type :Auto detection
              Transfer mode: DMA if available
Current transfer mode : Not appliable

Any other ways to check whether my DMA has been turn on ? How to verify ? try burning a dvd r again ? I have changed to another maxwell dvd -r

Oh ya the lowest burning speed is x 1 .. so tat means in future I shall use that instead of 2 x ?

Is my problem earlier is due to DMA turned off ? Wat is DMA 's role in this ?Pardon my ignorance

Will it be better if I buy an external LG DVD writer ??

Pls kindly advise me . Thanks.

What's all this about DMA? DMA, if on, can greatly speed up communications between your PC and its hard drive and DVD/CD drives. The following assumes your hard drive is on the primary channel and the CD/DVD drive is on the secondary. To check if it is on: Right click on My Computer Select Properties Click on

Hi thanks Chewy I realize my mistake and u are just nice enough to point it out to me...

now my secondary IDE is ultra DMA mode 2 . The rest remains the same like primary IDE.

Me already have sp2 install . Thanks for the reminder

Does it mean it is ok now ? How to verify ? by burning another dvd R ?

Would u mind helping to clear some doubts on some questions asked on the above ?

                    Thanks u so much !

I am not too confident in the age of the latest firmware, I would stay away from the newest media, if your burns are fine then use it.

I am not too confident in the age of the latest firmware, I would stay away from the newest media, if your burns are fine then use it.

2x is probably safest on that 8x verbatim, but I would also test
                          a burn at 4x

Oh come I dun have 4x in my nero ?

And based on yr experience ?

Which burning program is better ? Imgburn ? Dvdd or nero ?

Now I am only using the trial version of nero 7.

                            Thanks a bunch !

ImgBurn is the best for problematic situations.
Nero 7 would be out of the question for a while until they get
                              the bugs out.
Make an iso and try ImgBurn
Everything will work better if you shut down a lot of the stuff running in the background and free up some memory.
