I am tired of getting the skipping on my burned dvd's so I figured I would try smoothing them out by using the menushrink to give them that last bit of room it probobly needs to keep from skipping. I downloaded the newest (2.3) menushrink, loaded the folder after using DVD decrypter on the original dvd. After the menus were done being shrunk down, I proceeded to push the link for DVDShrink and clicked backup on there. After it was finished encoding and it got to the point of burning I get a burn error and it won't continue. Prior to doing this process I made a succesful backup (with skipping) without using Menushrink. Any ideas what could have gone wrong here?
Tried Menushrink and now no go

This is most likely due to poor media. Clearly, MenuShrink is not at fault, as DVD Shrink accepted the DVD for processing and did process it.
What is the Media ID code of your media and firmware version? Find this out through the link in my signature.
If you burned with Ner0, please post your Ner0 log. It is in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log (if you have Ner0 7 it's in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero7\Core\NeroHistory.log)
Read here to find out about your bad playback.
Check your DMA - see link in my signature.
If you have adhesive labels on your DVD, take them off.
Please also read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.
In the meantime, you can also set your target size to custom - 4300Mb.

I never got to burn this dvd on this try. There was no error in the burn log because of this. I have a blank memorex dvd-r in the drive, the same brand I used on the burn prior of this same dvd without using menushrink.
I have read through the link you have posted above about bad playback. That is the link I have had bookmarked for a long time now and how I know where to come to for the answers.
I use DvdShrink and I am guessing it uses nero to burn the dvd. I had attempted this today (1-1-06) and the last error that shows is from last night but I will post it anyway at the end of this post.
Here is the info about my media:

I am far from being an expert on reading these logs and you are probably going to still need more help but I noticed a couple of things.I would try to do something about that memory in use and check out blutach's golden rules of burning about that burning at 16X.Basically the slower the burn the better.Yes the DMA matters again follow blutach's directions on DMA.Last edited by soup; 2 Jan 2006, 11:26 AM.

I attempted to install that firmware A187 and it errored out on me toward the end both times I tried. I am not sure what type of DVD burner I have, but www.drvupdate.com is on the front of it and I use that to upgrade my firmware. When I ran the program this time it shows that I have A187 and the latest version is A190 but it isn't giving me the option to update it. I upgraded my nero and I am now encoding again hoping it will work. Also after what seemed forever, I was finally able to find where to change the write speed on dvdshrink, so I now have it set to 4x instead of maximum.Comment

Good luck, but be sure to do those other thing, especially media and making sure you have enough free memory.

It hasn't gone anywhere. It is still there. I am unsure why it isn't seeing it. I opened file for analysis, directed dvdshrink where to save to, and it did so. Then it automatically uses nero to burn but nero isn't finding it? Which program is being the bugger here?Comment

Ner0 I guess. Have you set this burn up manually? If so, you need to drag ALL the files from the DVD Shrink output folder into Ner0's red VIDEO_TS folder (and leave AUDIO_TS alone).

I am far from illiterate when it comes to the computer and programs, but nero has too many options and honestly I am not sure how to burn with nero manually. I think I stumbled across it once but don't think I had it set up right because it popped up an error as well. you say I need to drag all the files from the dvd shrink output folder into nero's red video_ts folder. Ok, where do I find this folder?Comment

I have an easier way.
Change your backup method and burn with DVD Decrypter. From DVD Shrink: Backup --> Select backup target --> ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter. Never fails. You can then junk Ner0 like many other unsatisfied users (including me).
