The fun never stops does it.

Ok i have updated my BIOS to the latest version but when I download the nVidia Chipset(CK804) driver version V6.65 for Windows XP(WHQL), it appears as a RAR file that I cant open. What the hell is an RAR file?

.RAR file is similar to .zip file. It is compressed. I use WinAce to open .RAR files. - http://www.winace.com/

              Ok thanks jmet.

The file was RAR and Winace extracted it for me. Ok I have updated the BIOS and the chipset driver so I will see if that has helped any. I will try another burn and see how I go. I can feel another coaster coming on.

Chewy is right though, I couldn't find a .RAR file to download on the ASUS site.

Why has it downloaded to my drive as a RAR file then? How can this happen?

madmike, you have installed winrar and not winzip, winrar has grabbed the
zip association, to see a files extension:

this load on this computer is something I would call difficult to say the least,
I would reccomend taking it to a shop where someone familiar with the NF4
chipset could straighten it out, on the other hand if you had another dvd burner to try that might be easier.

Ah ok...I have got Winzip now.

Yea I think I may have to get someone to look at it for me. I have a feeling the drive has died as it wont erase CD-RW's either.

Thanks for all your help guys and if you think of anything else let me know.

                          Thanks.

As a word of caution, a lot of very experienced geeks can spend quite a few
hours tweaking, troubleshooting their bios and getting a good driver load
on windows xp with these bleeding edge motherboards. My asus socket
939 via mobo is a piece of cake to load windowsw on, but it's such a
high performer it takes forever just to get bios settings right to where
                            you can load anything.

Ok I have gone over eevrything including the BIOS with no results. The same error of 'Invalid block address' still occurs.

Could this be related to the ASPI layer not working or not existing?

I have highlighted in the burn log below something that got my attention too. Could this be a fault?

Have you been able to burn anything wqith this drive? Have you tried ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter to burn an ISO?

Your problem could be ASPI related, but could also be cables or even the drive.

                                Regards
                                Les
