Nero 6.6 Error reading data

To try to rectify the problems I did the following:

Installed the latest drivers for my Asus motherboard's Intel chipset
Upgraded from Nero 6.6.0.16 to 6.6.0.18
Upgraded the DVR-107D from firmware 1.18 to 1.22

Unfortunately I still have "data read errors". Below is my latest log file for a "data read error".

all problems must be addressed, not just 1 or 2

bottom line tho:
the drive is getting up in it's years, may be dying

Why is that a problem? I thought I was doing the right thing as advised by the Nero website

I'm not sure what that Prassi/Vdriver is doing there. If it's a problem, how would I delete it?

Actually they are just on 2 cables. So I guess I should change the jumpers so that my C: drive is master on channel 1, DVD writer is master on channel 2, and my 2 data drives are slaves (one on each channel). Is that ideal?

Your log shows four drives on seperate ports all jumpered as master,
I would think it has something to do with those latest intel chipset drivers.

if you go into device manager you might be able to roll back the driver to
a default microsoft one for the secondary and primary ide,

Old IDE controller drivers - This is the most common cause of this error message. You must have the latest drivers for your IDE controller card to prevent it. (ItÂ´s the same for SCSI cards). Go to the website of the manufacturer of your controller card and obtain the latest drivers. Such as Intel, VIA, SIS, etc.

I wouldn't call windows xp sp2 old quite yet.

Thanks again Chewy.

The drivers for the secondary and primary ide are still showing as "Microsoft 5.1.2600.2180" from 01/07/2001 so I guess we can rule that out as a problem.

The other entry under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" is "Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA storage controllers" and the driver for this is showing as "Intel 6.0.3.1005" from 17/11/2004. Should I try rolling that one back or is that not relevant?

I built one of those when they first came out, took 4 months and 3 bios flashes and a couple of reloads to get it just right, some goober keep leaving an external hard drive turned on and connected when they rebooted,
durn computer would stop boot and ask for default bios settings,
which with our raid stripe wouldn't boot windows.

I burned a lot of dvd's with a plex on that computer, that 3.2ghz cpu was
very fast with shrink.

was this related to the timing of your present burning problems?

I went back to asus

didn't see any southbridge drivers but they are still putting out bios's
for that rocket board.

Thanks Chewy, it is one of the steps I've tried to fix my burning problems because it was advised by the Nero support page. The burning problems arised before that. I detect no noticeable change in my computer since doing it.

I'll try rolling back that driver as you advise.

I'm also going to check my cable configuration and jumper settings in case those are causing Nero to think my devices are all masters on 4 different channels.

I'm also going to try putting the source data on another hard drive, and also putting the 107D in my external firewire box and burning from my laptop.

The changes to the Asus BIOS since my 1021 version look irrelevant to me so I doubt it's worth me flashing that.

good luck in your investigation, you seem to have a good handle on it,
that's one of the reasons I like to have extra hardware to troubleshoot with/
another dvd burner.
