DVD-9 vs DVD-5

Hello,

I've been burning dvds onto 4.7GB +R discs using dvd decrypter and dvd shrink with hardly any problems at all. I recently got a dual layer burner and I'm using 8.5GB +R discs, but now my dvd player won't play back the discs. They are both +R discs and my player is compatible with +R -R +RW -RW discs anyway. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

As well, can you please post a burning log (you burned with DVD Decrypter/Ner0?). What media did you use? Use Verbatims only.

It could be very well your DVD player doesn't support DVD+R DL disc's.

What is the brand name and model # of your stand alone DVD player?

From what I can tell most of the time it comes down to that last step before burning.

It also all has to do with the layer break. If you don't set it, than the disc will not play.

Thanks for everyone's comments...it's really appreciated. My problem is that I used decrypter in file mode instead of iso. Can anyone please tell me why I need to switch (just so I understand the difference)? I've always used file mode before when burning 4.7GB discs.

Also, I have Verbatim, Memorex and GQ (Great Quality) blank discs. Should I return the others and only keep Verbatim?

When burning the image, select the ".MDS" file to properly set the layer break, unless you know what your doing, you can actually set it yourself.

I have one player that doesn't like them (recent new player as well). My other players play the discs fine.

Same problem

Fishes I have the same problem. Found out that the DL Ritek discs I burned worked fine in a friends cheap player (but not in my expensive but old player). However, DL Verbatims work in mine. The manual for my player doesn't even mention -R, +R etc, just DVD Video. Upgrade is imminent.
