LG burners

they are solid and dependable, my 4163B burns some of my prettiest disks,
4165 and 4167 have come out since, but LG is still putting out new firmwares
for this older model.
on a lark I tested a media that it hasn't handled well at fast speeds with
the newest firmware(1.06)

these are Taiyo Yuden 16x dvd-r's

Many at CDF think that 4163 is the best; latest LG models are not so good.

I was considering one of these, but I can afford only one burner (for now), and I was planning a plextor. Do you think that the expense is worth?

I am considering a new burner. LG is on the choice list, also because I'm real curious to try RAM media. For what I know they are many more reliable than RW media

The LGs are terrific for burning DVD RAM. It is very convenient geno888. The ram driver doesn't get in the way of normal DVD operations either (unlike InCD).

I have heard that ram is not usfull with video, but?

its useful for data backup, where frequent updating is needed

It is not at all useful for DVD-Video. But is bloody good in backing up data as anon says (including regular video files).
