Please help with my "Write error"

    Hello Everyone,
I have been able to backup my DVD's without a problem for months.
My kid was kind enough to download a bootleg game complete with a good virus for me.
Needless to say, I had to format my hard drive and reloaded everything.

Here is where my DVD problems begin...
I can ripp a DVD to my hard drive but when I want to burn to a blank DVD it will write between 13 and 90 percent then it fails.

Here is one of the error logs.
Could someone please look at it and tell me if something is not set right.

    A little more information:
The DVD Disk info is Imation CMC MAG AF1 and I went to http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.ph...a=686#comments where I do not see where anyone is having problems like this.

Now here is something strange... I can burn just fine on my TEAC DV-W24EW but my HP DVD Writer 630e fails. And something else the DVD drive is a 630e not c. Could there be something that made this change to the firmware?

Maybe I am grasping at straws. LOL

    This is strange.

I got my answer about the firmware version.

HP DVD630c is the correct and newest firmware version for my burner.
I will continue to read until my eyes start bleeding from looking at the screen.
When I find a solution to this I will post it here so that if someone has the same problem maybe it could help them.

        Hi,
CMC discs are generally not considered very good quality and can give burn errors. As a first step might be worth trying better media, like Taiyo Yuden or Ritek.

Yes, that is one of the thoughts I had.
I will run up to store and get some good ones and post my results in about an hour.

          Thanks for the reply.

Some quality media would include Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell (made in Japan). Stay away from Imation, Memorex, Dynex, Kyhpermedia etc.

Ok, so I ran to the store and purchased some test disks.
Of course I did not see the post by Locoeng...
I purchased one small pack of Memorex 4.38gb DVDs and a 5 pack of Double layer Dynex.
Both you have listed as "Stay Away From"

              And the results are.
The Memorex failed at 1% of the writing process
The Dynex completed the full write process.

Damn, I sure can pick em. LOL
Anyway I will go and get some Sony DVDs tomorrow and give it a try.
In the meantime, I am open with to any suggestions as to why they all work on one DVD burner and not the other.

              Thanks for your time!

Glad to hear you had some success.
Some makes of DVD burner can be more picky with media than others. Upgrading to the latest firmware can improve things, although you say you're on the latest version already.

                  Update:
Today I purchased Sony 4.7GB DVDs Ripped and burned complete in 43 minutes.
I tell ya, I was sure worried that old age was kicking in on me and I was doing something wrong.
Most everything is posted in these forums and I know that reading is everything...

Speaking of Media, what is the group's opinion of Sonic brand DVD's? I have been using the 4X variety for a long time now, and with very few errors, mostly caused by me. When I switched to the 8X variety, I was getting errors almost 75% of the time. Has anyone else had issues with these or know anything about them? I currently have about 50 of them sitting in my desk because I don't want to use them for movies, maybe data only.

LOL...I afraid I'd be too late. I guess you didn't get lucky and get the Ritek made memorex, Ritek also makes some for Dynex.

You can get this nifty little free program to tell you who is making your discs: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
