    Downloading DVDInfo

Anyone know how to get the free one now?
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm <-- they show how to get the write strategy using the free one that you can't get anymore. Anyone have the freeware version that would be willing to upload it for me? I could then host it for everyone.

Jeez, I hate when freeware programs become non-freeware. Same happened with DivX2DVD, at least you can still get the free one from VideoHelp.

It still comes in free (adverts) and a pay version. The free one can be downloaded from here. Don't forget that the free version comes with a expiry date.

bDVDINFOPro/b is a DVD information tool that provides detailed information of your DVD drive and DVD media.

That is DVDInfoPro which I downloaded already. I can't figure out how to get the Write Strategy to show using it... I wanted to know if anyone knew how to get the regular DVDInfo.

There is no such thing as DVDInfo. There is just DVDInfoPro (which people call DVDInfo) which comes in a free and pay version.

Also, every free version has had a expiry date (which only lasts a month or two).

hmmm... check out that site I posted a link to. They say "Using a currently unavailable version of DVDInfo"... did they shorten it?

Also, do you know how to figure out the write signature in the free DVDInfoPro?

I remember now. There was a DVDInfo. Nic who does the software has always put expire date in in his free software. So, it would be useless now.

All the versions I have used has always been called DVDInfoPro. I have been using it for nearly three years now.

I never got into the write stragey thing. All I have seen is the write strategy bit that shows what speed the disc was burned at (media icon in DVDinfoPro).

Hmmm. The Write Strategy is supposed to tell you the best speed to burn at. And, when you mean an expire date, do you mean by date, or by amount of days that it was installed?

Now, that site also said that Nero could determine the write strategy. Anyone know how?

I just showed you how to do it with cdspeed, burn a data disk like you did,
then do a transfer test, if it shows wiggles, you went too fast.
Just burn at 8x with those verbs, 16x only saves a few minutes.
Nero doesn't show true write speeds, unless you apply a hack, ImgBurn does.

When a free version came out (had adverts that showed on the screen). It had a set expiry date. Once, that date was reached. The software would not load anymore. A new version with another date appears on the site. So, you could be downloading it with two months to go, or a week to go before it stopped working.

The free version of DVDInfoPro works the same way. I think the current free 4.52 version will expire on the 2nd February.

IC. Do you know the guy who made that program, is that how you know all this? The Nero way is not 100% reliable as I don't wanna waste a Verbatim, and it is hard to interpret the results. Is there another way (ImgBurn maybe) that can determine the write strategy?

                      Is that to me?

I have just used the software for a long time. I used to use the free version for a while then bought it later on. I was continously downloading a new version as the free one had ended and stopped working.

                      I don't know the guy.

Just for fun, I tested a 4x Verbatim DVD+RW. Does this scan mean that 4x is the write strategy? Also, why does the green line stay the same while the yellow keeps going down - what does that mean?

                          drf,
did the 8x burn with verbatim screw up? does it play at the very end of the disk? Is your firmware the latest?

@NWG IC. Thanks for the info.
@Chewy, should I use Nero to test the Verbatim? There are other speeds like 10x, and 12x, too.
